About UWC Brazil

UWC relies on a network of National Committees operating primarily on a volunteer basis in over 150 countries.

Who forms the National Committee?

Our UWC National Committee is made up of individuals who share UWC’s mission and values. These include:

Our history and impact

The first Brazilian student joined UWC Atlantic College in 1962, the founding year of our inaugural campus. Since then, more than 200 students from diverse backgrounds and realities across Brazil have had the opportunity to attend the two-year residential program at a UWC school and/or participate in short courses organized by UWC globally.

Initially, Brazilian students were selected directly by educators involved in the creation of the UWC movement. In the 1970s, alumni began to take over the selection process, a trend already underway in other parts of the world. Since the early 1980s, the selection process has followed its current structure: written exam, interview, and group dynamics. The Association’s members periodically organize meetings to review the outreach and selection processes, and to explore other ways in which the UWC ideals and the type of experience the movement offers can be spread throughout the country and region.

Our commitment
Get involved

UWC Brazil is a non-profit association. Its activities are funded through the annual selection process and donations, under the condition that donors have no influence over the selection process. The funds raised cover operational costs to support outreach and selection efforts and are also used to supplement scholarships and/or cover related expenses (such as visas and airfare) for selected students whose families demonstrably cannot afford the program.

If you would like to make a contribution to the United World Colleges Association of Brazil, explore the available ways to support us – and thank you in advance! Financial contributions are greatly appreciated, but there are other ways to collaborate. Helping to spread the word about UWC opportunities in your community is already a valuable form of support.

Join us in empowering the next generation of global citizens!
